I just built a new rig and when trying to install Mint 17 I get software rendering mode on install only. And no internet connection so I am lost as to what to do or why.
I'm happy to help, but your questions is incredibly general, you should provide MUCH more information in regards to:
- Specifications of the target machine
- Distribution of Linux Mint (Cinamon, MATE, KDE, Xfce etc.), version: 17.x.x?, Kernel version 3.x (probably...)
- What you would actually like help solving... What is the problem, be more specific. (From your mention of "Software Rendering Mode" I 'assume' you would like some help with regards to graphics drivers...?)
If possible, along with what chrisoman has requested, could you post a screenshot or in some way post the information from this command (using the terminal)...
what is happening is I have plugin connection ... no wifi
when loading I have no internet connection and it is is software rendering mode. I tried both Mint and Ubuntu,
I even took the HD from my old computer and installed that thinking that may correct the issue, with the same results

Hi...
We still need the information we requested to be able to help you. Swapping the hard drive is not going to fix this problem as it is not responsible for your graphics or for getting you on the internet.

To get out of Software Rendering Mode......
Try going into "Driver Manager" and update or click on install "fglrx-updates"
Are you using Cinnamon? Mate? or KDE?
Post the output of lspci -nnk and the output of lspci | grep -i network
