1. Go to
http://java.com
2. Pick a Java version --choose an executable binary, not an RPM.
3. Download it.
4. Put the download anywhere convenient.
5. Open a shell and navigate to the location of the binary.
6. Enter "chmod +x *.bin"
7. Enter "./(full name of binary)"
8. The binary Java download will install itself.
As you become more familiar with Java, you will figure out how to get the various versions downloaded and installed.
