I am unable to boot or install Zorin 7 ultimate, 64-bit after downloading it.

Hello,

I’m a newbie to Linux and have use windows pretty much my whole adult life. I wanted to have a different OS and I thought Linux looked nice and modern. So I got some Slackware and could not be happier with it. I love the control I have over my PC and it’s just a lot different. Well, I saw the new release of Zorin on this forum and decided to try out a new OS. So this is my story.
I purchased Zorin OS ultimate 64 bit (Done)
I used Firefox to do the download (Done) 7 hrs later.
I saved the WinRAR archive of the Zorin IOS onto my desktop (Done)
I used the winMd5Sum to check the freshly downloaded file (Done) and the sum matched. (Good)
I open the archive with the password.
I open the ISO image and Nero burning software starts (OK)
I burn the ISO image to a DVD at the slowest speed 4X (Done)
I now have the image on a DVD that was checked for errors (Done and none)
I put the DVD into the “DVD drive” and (yes the boot order is to look at the CD’s first) ;^)
I restart my PC and the computer glances at the CD drives and then loads WINDOWS!
The same thing happens on my Slackware box. It looks at my CD drives and says, (“Hello, excuse me while I go find an operating system on the HDD.”) I even wiped out the Slackware to see if that was an issue. I put Slackware back on after it failed to see the image. I just wanted to see if I could have a dual boot OS.

I thought I would try to download it again on another disk and the same thing happens, which is nothing. Also a word about the Zorin staff (Very nice and great customer service)

Here are some specs on my XP box.

looks like you have two DVD drives

have you tried the disk in both?

or one 'flavour' in each?

There is and NEVER has been a archive format called "winrar" !!!!

Winrar is a windows program to add a GUI to using the rar format

there will never be a archive format called "winrar"
it is just " .rar "

Quote:

WTF ???
what
the download is a ISO
and it is NOT a password protected rar archive !!

http://zorin-os.com/core32.html
( man i VERY MUCH DISLIKE URL SHORTENERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"h t t p : //bit.ly/118AkQe"
WTF is that !!!!!! that address could be to anywhere and for anything )

------------- the real mirror at ibiblio ------------
http://distro.ibiblio.org/zorin/7/
---------------
if you are trying to install something that is password protected and NOT the iso
then it is likely from some site that installed malware in it

re download it from lbibido
http://distro.ibiblio.org/zorin/7/
that is a KNOWN good and very well trusted site

It is o.k to pay for it developers need to buy their pizza and caffeine anyway. If you dont want to pay for it then better off downloading a different distro.
I hear before too that the Zorin ISO comes incapsulated in a rar file that needs a password. You have that password after you have contributed to the developer. I dont really know how much they charge for it though.

Good luck.

Zorin 7

Sorry for not using the correct terminology, I'm new at this. The image file is zorin-os-7-ultimate-64 and it's 3.64 GB Image file. I think I'll just stick to Slackware. I'm Done.

Thanks for the advice.
