Unhappy HR 7.3 - Has the directory structure has been restructured ???

I have followed every line by word of the HOWTO to install the SpeedTouch ADSL modem (France) posted originally by Benoit PAPILLAULT. I get some feed back probing the conection but can't get connected through the browser.
I was guided to a speedtouch-doctor program but it suggests directories that do NOT exist: '/usr/src/linux'.
The speedtouch-doctor says : "
HDLC support is missing... trying the load
HDLC support: failed to load ....."
...Thanks

First download updated one
ncftpget updates.redhat.com/7.3/en/os/i686/kernel-2.4.18-4.i686.rpm
ncftpget updates.redhat.com/7.3/en/os/i386/kernel-source-2.4.18-4.i686.rpm

than install it:
rpm -ivh kernel-2.4.18-4.i686.rpm
rpm -ivh kernel-source-2.4.18-4.i686.rpm

and reboot
