How to retrieve mail from server?

I people, I have a dedicated server, mainly used for games in my clan. Now I have installed postfix, it retrieves mail into the users account perfectly. With which program do I get this mail into my local mail account (Thunderbird).

The program you're probably missing is a POP3 server. POP3 is a protocol used to retrieve mail from server and it should work with your Postfix (that handles SMTP) to enable both receiving and sending. An example of such program that should be on your installation cds is qpopper.

A POP daemon may not be necessary; the SMTP daemon (MDA) may be putting mail into the user's local mail spool (e.g. /var/spool/mail/user), and any mail client (MUA) can then be configured to retrieve mail from the mail spool, and to subsequently save it into a specific location within the user's home directory.
