"how to login in to Linux without password or to recover password"

Hi, my name is Rajeev and I have taken a class in Linux at school. It was a beginner class. I haven't used Linux for a while and I forgot my password. I remember my username though. Please help if you can. I have taken a few computer classes and have a bachelors degree at a different school. I also have one certificate at a community college.

Great...did any of these certificates or courses happen to cover Google, or using a search function?? This has been covered on here MANY times, and Google has about 500k hits.

Do you remember your root password? What version/distro of Linux are you using?? You should be able to boot into single-user mode, or via a Linux CD/DVD, and change your password from there, or log in as root and change it with "passwd <username>".
