it is usually best to use the kernels provided by your distribution unless you have special needs for a different kernel. In such a case it is then usually a good idea to use whatever framework/packages/tools that the distribution provides to compile and install said kernel. So, to get the best answer to your question you should probably tell us what distribution and version you are running. It might also be a good idea to tell us why you want to do this.
I'm a studying asterisk so in order to develop my skills i want to start in linux kernel and asterisk installer only. As a beginner in linux kernel and firstimer to install the linux kernel 3.8 i need to find a step by step tutorial.
ok, but what distro and version are you running? As mentioned in my previous post I think it is best to use the tools that you distro provides (you don't have to, but you're here asking for advice and I believe that is the best advice).
Cheers,
Evo2.
PS. Here I'm assuming that you have installed (or plan to install) the asterisk PBX on some machine.
ok, since you still didn't answer what OS you are running I'd don't think I can help you. If you feel like answering the my questions I'll be happy to help. Good luck.
