how to change system time? date cmd?

I need to change the system time on a slackware system. I guess my main problem is how to reset it with the 'date' command...i can't figure out how to form a 'valid string'. Is there another way besides the date command too?

To get a valid format look at the output of it.

Alternatively you could try using ntpdate and
sync against an internet - machine with the
right time and date :)

Cheers,

thanks. I found I could just simply do date -s 12:34:45 or whatever the time is. I was trying to enter the MMddHHmm.ss i saw in the man page so i would do 10311234.45... (oct 31..)

oh well, the date was already correct
