How do you install rawtherapee????

Hi there

very basic question I'm sure!!:

there's an image editing program I want to use called "rawtherapee", (see their website). The problem is, I don't know how to install it.
There have been one or two places on the net that said you can download it directly from Ubuntu software center - but when I search for it there, it is not found.

Another suggestion I read on the net says all you have to do is run the command:

Code:
sudo apt-get install rawtherapee
but the following message is returned when I try this:
Quote:
E: Couldn't find package rawtherapee
So that doesn't work either!
I think I should be able to download and install it from the rawtherapee website in their download section.

So I have it downloaded as a zip file but don't know what to do next to actually install it!!

Please note, that installing stuff in UBUNTU has been a source of untold frustration for me, so if there is a kind sould out there who would like to explain in redundant detail why installing stuff is made so complicated, I'm sure I would benefit from that!
Otherwise, I would be very happy just to be told how to install rawtherapee.

Cheers

Not as easy as one would think by the way.

You need to know what a ppa is an how to fix your system to allow that package to download. That assumes there is a version for your exact level of ubuntu also.

https://launchpad.net/~rawtherapee

If what I see is true then the 10.10 version has some full support or community support.

Saying all that is not going to help you here since it looks like the zip file is the way to go.

Generally you un-zip the file to some location. Then look for a read me file. It should say some thing like run sudo ./install or some such command. You may have to even change the file permissions on the installer file to be an executable.

I can't download that right now to see exactly.

NOTE the remarks. You may have to do a lot more to this file. Things like set flags and get exact level of GCC or libraries.

"Build Type: release
Processor: 1
Gtkmm Version: V2.24.2
Compiler: GCC 4.6.1
Build Flags: -march=native
Link Flags: -march=native
OpenMP: Yes, Mmap: Yes "

Ubuntu 10.04

unzip RawTherapee_default_Ubuntu_10.04_32_4.0.7.23_release.zip
cd rawtherapee/ && ./rawtherapee : The RawTherapee GUI opens OK.
There is no install required.

Dependencies : liblcms2* ( not in the 10.04 repo )
sudo dpkg -i liblcms2-all-2.2.ubu1004_i386.deb
