How do I install an archiver for xarchiver on linpus lite?

I am running xarchiver 4.9 and it will not open .rar

I receive the warning: Sorry, this archive format not supported: the proper archiver is not installed.

Can anyone tell me how to install the correct archiver?

Really stuck on this one, any help would be very much appreciated.

You simply need to install the rar and unrar packages.

also be warned linpus light IS NOT fedora 8
do not install ( the now moved to the historical archives )fedora 8 rpm's you might KILL the OS

I've installed rar and unrar - I didn't know if I'd have to do anything else to get them to work through xarchiver, turns out I don't.

I have an Acer Aspire One but **DO NOT** have Linpus. Why? Gee, let me think:

Crippled package management system and outdated repository
Have to literally type 'sudo system-config-packages' to get to the package manager
Trying to change the DE using the package manager will cause errors resolving dependencies
Has no DM, so there's no way to log in as root unless you use sudo -s or su
Crippled version of Xfce and no way to change the desktop background without breaking your desktop

Your best bet is to switch distros, either to Fedora (by adding the F13 repositories) or to Ubuntu (by installing from Live CD).

I don't think Linpus is a great system but it's getting by okay.

Becoming root is pretty easy and after that everything is open.

You get to the Package Manager by right-clicking on the desktop and going to system and then add/remove software.

The repository is out of date and it can be cumbersome at times but i'm glad I saved £50 by not getting windows and for someone like me (not very tech savvy, not needing to push the system too much) it's been working with few complaints for a couple of years now.
