NVidia upgrades their drivers, even their older drivers, as necessary. Use the latest version of the "proper" driver for the card and there shouldn't any problems.
However, there does come a point, of course, when the GPU is so old, it is time to buy a new card. A user cannot objectively expect to be able to run the latest and greatest software, desktops, games, etc., with out of date equipment. That old hardware can still be used for other purposes.
