HELP: eth timed out message makes command line useless UPDATED

I just installed RH 9.0 on a 300Mhz celeron in a Abit bh6 with a 3com 3c905C ethernet card.

When I boot up the machine it prints out the following message constantly:
eth0: transmit timed out, tx_status 00 status e000.
diagnotistics: net 0cd8 dirty media 8880 dma 000000a0.
Flags: bus-master 1, dirty 0(0) current 16(0)
Transmit list 27272720 vs cb24a200.
[Then lists what I think are 16 address with length and status information]

UPDATE I removed the static IP information and the message went away. I didn't specify a real Primary DNS server. Is there away I can have the machine grab the DNS from the DHCP server but still use a static IP?

Thanks in Advance.
