I know, I meant Google+ has been a commercial and social failure, not a technical failure. As a social network, it has definitely lost to other more popular networks, like Facebook and Twitter and Instagram, etc.
It's not that small. People want to believe it is, but the facts are otherwise. Certainly not as big as Facebook, but it's doing well enough. I know of lots of people on both. My family is all on it, because Hangouts is far superior to any other option, including especially Skype, which really sucks in comparison.

I agree Skype sucks. Maybe there's an alternative to Hangouts where I can Video Conference in re: Linux?

According to Statista, G+ is on a par with Instagram and only slightly behind Twitter for number of active users.
Facebook is in another league of course.
Communities have never really taken off on G+. I'm a member of several, and I'm rather glad they're small, or my feed would become unreadable. The number of posts would be so large that it would take hours to scan them all.
