Gnu Parted: "incompatible feature enabled"

Hello all,

I've been trying to divide my /dev/hda6 linux partition (home) in half to make room for another OS, but cannot get GNU parted to cooperate.

This is my problem: after I unmount the partion (in maintenance mode) I run parted to "check 6" but I get this error message:

Error: Filesystem has incompatible feature enabled

I don't wont to resize with that error. I've tried tune2fs and e2fsck but nothing helps.

Please help

depends on the distro you used to format your partition

some of those distros modify the ext3 partition type to make for their own "specialties" and is the reason why my mandrake ext3 partition could not be read or worked with in my Windows Partition Magic (and qtparted is a "clone" of PM)

you seem to be using mandrake, so i am not sure if parted will be able to work with your partition

why don't you just use the mandrake partitioning tool? it is in the mandrake control panel

Thanks for the info about distros, SM

I tried the DiskDrake and it worked! I tried it before and I couldn't do anything becuase the only command they allowed me to do was 'unmount' which wouldn't do anything for some reason. This time I entered the control panel but right before I opened DiskDrake I unmounted the partition in the root consol. I could then resize and more.

Thank you
