Gneral question about the cherry cymotion linux keyboard

I know this is kniod of hardware related but Its also newbie related so i put it in here. I appologise if this is the wrong section. I have signed up for a 2 year subscription to linuc format magazine and it comes with a free cherry cymotion linux keyboard (assuming they ahve some left). And from what I have read in order to get all the speciail hot keys working you have to patch the kernal and install their software.

My first problem is I have only bene running Linuc for around 5 and ahalf months running the kernal that came with the distro I chose to use, Mepis. So I havent even attempted anything like this.

Is this patch by any chance included now in the cureent release kernals mepis or even debian? Im kind of guessing no for one reason or another.

How hard is it to go about applying the neccesery pacth and then recompiling the kernal the first time. Because I am finding the prospect of this daunting from what I have read. If it is going to be painful id rather justnite the bullet and not bother with those features provided.

However attemoting it would be a great learning experiance even if I fail miserably at it.

Does anyone here have one and what did they do to get it all functioning properly?

thnaks in advance

Michael

I'm on SUSE 10.0, and all I did was install the software and it worked (2.6.13 kernel).
