Unhappy font problem

I just installed the latest version of gaim....i was busy chatting for a long time & suddenly gaim terminated on its own. When i restarted the same it gave an error saying "/tmp/gaim_socket,0 already in use." I got connected to my messengers but then my fonts suddenly became rough.I checked in control center & tried to bring back the smoothness...those options were already checked. But the fonts arent smooth....i tried using GNOME too...same problem there. Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Kill GAIM, delete /tmp/gaim_socket,0, and restart GAIM.
