How do I know which firefox add-ons can be downloaded for Linux, rather than Windows... ?
I do not wish to download stuff and and in the process screw up other Linux settings !
How do I know which firefox add-ons can be downloaded for Linux, rather than Windows... ?

Well, if you go to the Firefox add-on page, it'll say what OS's it supports. And if you click on "INSTALL", and it's for a different OS, it'll come up and tell you....
