I am having trouble insatalling games on my linux os computer. I download them but dont know where to go from there. Whenever I click the file it opens packege manneger.(what is that)Is there some kind of linux wizard?? Thanks!!!!!
tar is short for tarball, or a bunch of files stuck togther, usually you see tar.gz or tar.bz the last bit being compressions. Think zip file.
basically you are launching some archiving software when you double click simply extract the files to disk, and see whats in there. Theres probably a README file, or similar telling you what to do with the files.
The Game I am trying to run is Unreal Tournaments. I am used to windows where all you do is click on the icon and it pretty much installs itself. How would I install it in linux? Whenever I click on the file (looks like a box) it just opens the package manager. Once I am in there what do I do next? How do I "unzip" it? Thanks!
i have used the unreal tournement installer before,
once you have untared it (equal to geting a winziped file, when you double click it it just opens with winzip)
(try right click, extract here)
you should have a .run file
just open a terminal,
cd to where the file is,
(if you untar it in your home folder the terminal will allready be in the right place,)
then run the file from the command line
as
sh filename.run
(tip, type the first few letters of the filename and them press tab, the rest of the name will be compleated for you, (remember to use the right case))
the unreal tournement insatller will then pop up a wizard that sorts the rest out for you
