wooowww, i go to school and i actually got more than one reply! lmao...well...i would like to have a better vid card, but im only 14, and i dont have a job, i get what i get from my parents....maybe i can get one for christmas and sell my old one to my brother lol

Debian crashes when i install nvidia drivers...i didnt like mandrake...and my friend said that i wouldn't stand a chance at installing gentoo. I know theres a lot of others (i tried a couple of others, and they didn't work or i just didnt like em), but i actually liked slack and now it works with my vid card...

as for the glxgears....758 FPS normal, 2961 minimized...lol...

i have:

AMD Athalon XP 2700+ 2.2Ghz 333 FSB
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128mb
512mb DDR PC2700 (ill upgrade it when i get a higher fsb than 333)

Well...i was just kinda curious on the glx thing...didn't NEED it to go faster..just wonderin how -_- thx for ur help guys!! now, i just have to figure out why slackware isnt reading my dvd rom drive..but thats another post in another area, lol

(I installed the drivers on suse through yast online update =/) so, i need a linux distro besides suse that supports nvidia geforce 5200 cards...

Hi,
Yes i know 2 linux distros that support Geforce FX5200. Mandriva One, Mandrake 9.1. But they are not free versions. I too used SuSE10.1. and my PC need to install driver. I need a n online kernel update to complete installation. But presently i not internet in my home. So to get full hardware support we should only commercial versions. i also used FC5, mandriva2006 but not suported. I think Mandriva One in value for money when compared to Fedora a free distro. SuSE10.1 not having some applications and binaries for home user haece i won't play MP3, mpeg, mpg, wmv. So Mandriva free is better. to get drivrer no way insted use commercial edition of Mandriva.

If you find any free distro that support please kindly inform me at gopi219@yahoo.co.in
======SORRY! NO OTHER WAY I KNOW======

IMPORTANT: You need to recompile and install the nvidia kernel module
after each kernel update.

From runlevel 3:
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-8774-pkg2.run -K

Although the instructions above are from NVIDIA (specific to SuSE), I would imagine that other distros may require this as well.

Sooooooo......

Keep the driver file somewhere where you won't delete it so that you can update your kernel and keep your graphics card working.

As to the issue of SuSE not playing media files, you should check out this site: http://www.tweakhound.com/linux/suse...stalling_1.htm

Suse works very well (especially after fixing 10.1).
