Difference Between tar and dump


Hi,
I am learning Ndmp protocol In that u can take backup using
either tar and dump
can u explain me what is difference between tar and dump?

Also check the man pages and google or wikipedia. Once you've done some reading you may have more pointed questions. General "can u explain" questions typically have lots of answers already available on the web. Trying to provide detailed answers here would take a lot of space, duplicate what is already available, and maybe not even answer what you really want to know.

hi

dump- what actually dump does is, it skips the fle system and read the information from the tape using raw device. That is it transfers the who image at once where as tar does it only file by file

there was some error. i forgot to write something there in between .It is it reads the information straight of the disk using the raw device. Sorry for that.
