Question Debian 7 ssh error: -bash: apy-get: command not found

Hi

I just got a vps server and i try to run apt-get update and i got this:

Code:
-bash: apt-get: command not found
Any ideas how to fix it?

Even if i try manual to install it i am getting:

Code:
configure: error: cannot run /bin/sh buildlib/config.sub
dpkg also missing and gcc compiler ....

Thanks

Are you running the apt-get command as the root user? You generally need to do this.

Compiling from source will not work without the proper development tools installed.

Are you sure this is really a Debian machine. Please post the output of the following commands to help us diagnose the situation.
Code:
/usr/bin/lsb_release --all
/usr/bin/file /usr/bin/dpkg
/usr/bin/file /usr/bin/apt
echo $PATH
Evo2.

I was select Debian 7 and as i know Digital Ocean installs a minimum installation of it...

Code:
[root@server1 ~]# /usr/bin/lsb_release --all
-bash: /usr/bin/lsb_release: No such file or directory
[root@server1 ~]# /usr/bin/file /usr/bin/dpkg
/usr/bin/dpkg: cannot open (No such file or directory)
[root@server1 ~]# /usr/bin/file /usr/bin/apt
/usr/bin/apt: cannot open (No such file or directory)
[root@server1 ~]# echo $PATH
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/root/bin

Hi,

Debian without /usr/bin/dpkg?

Can you provide any evidence that this is really a Debian installation? Eg.
Code:
cat /etc/*release*
cat /etc/issue
cat /etc/motd
/bin/uname -a
Etc...

Evo2.
