connectiong win98 laptop tot fedora pc

i am a verry noob in this question.

i want to connect my win98 laptop to my fedora core pc.
i have downloaded putty en try to connect using ssh.
but it gives me a connection refused. i have sshd running but i cant get in with putty. (port 22 connection refused ) how do i give my laptop the premission to connect to the fedora pc. or what software do i need?

Is the network configured correctly?
Can you ping the RH from the windows PC?
Can you access ssh on the RH PC itself?
Do you have a firewall running on the RH box? If so either allow ssh or turn it off for now.

ping = OK
ssh = ? sshd service is running, but i don exactly understand what you mean with acces ssh.. like connect to myself? if i type ssh in console you get the options is that what you meant by ssh?
firewall: im a noob, i have a standard fedora installation.. where could i find the firewall?
