Connecting to the internet through a socks 5 proxy. How?

Hi,
I'm trying to switch from Windows 98 to Linux(Debian) at the moment but I have a problem with the internet connection under Linux.
My main computer is running WinXp and Janaserver as a proxy, with Socks5 support. My second pc is running Win98 and Debian and has no direct connection to the internet. Most programs have proxy settings by themselves , like Firefox, but Mozilla Thunderbird does not have anything like that, or at least the proxy support is broken. Under Windows i resolve this problem by using "Freecap" or "Sockscap". Under Linux I use TSocks for this, but I don't understand how to enable the resolution of hostnames. Freecap did this by itself with a setting called "Dns Name Resolving - Local than remote" which works fine. I compiled Tsocks with the parameter "--enable-socksdns --disable-hostnames" which should work, but it doesn't. It still can't resolve hostnames. Tsocks works if i try to connect to an ip address, so my configuration can't be too wrong. I hope that someone here can help me.

I've no idea, but you might want to look in the "Networking" forum here. Have you done a search for "socks 5"? (Click "search" in the header line.)

I found some topics, but those who have a similar question to mine, are not answered, so i think that Tsocks does not work as it should. I'll try arround with Dante now, perhaps it works better.
