checksum

Hi,
when I download files to my fedora I see for example this kind of file:

http://www.snort.org/dl/snort-2.2.0.tar.gz.md5

I want to download snort-2.2.0.tar.gz.md5.

waht is the process of checking the checksum ?

thanks

you can
md5sum snort-2.2.0.tar.gz

the output should match the signature in snort-2.2.0.tar.gz.md5.
