Usually when you choose KDE at startup, it should stay at next logon. If not, you can go in the user panel and edit preferences for a specific user. I have already seen somewhere a drop down list where you can choose a startup mgr.

Hope this helps.

do you use gdm/xdm/kdm (graphical login)? if so, there should be a drop-down on there
to select

do you use console login?
-> use the file ~/.xinitrc
--> which should contain the line:
exec startkde
OR
exec gnome-session
