Cd Player Not Working Properly


i put the cd in the cd+rw drive push it in the cd player comes up and starts playing it but no sound comes out does anyone have any tips, or should i just start kicking my box and cursing at it ?

also i have sound when i tested it and my speekers
are currently on and other programs have sound

I had the same problem on Fedora, so I assume that you may be having a similar experience because you are using Redhat. It turns out that the CD player was muted in the volume settings. To change this go to, Sound and Video, Volume Controls. Then unmute the settings until you have unmuted the one for your CD player.

i checked that and there was nothing muted -- buy ty anyways

I am experiencing the same problem with mandrake 10.1
KScd popsup and plays but no sound.

just an idea... Is your user member of the audio group? if not try adding it.

i dunno the command for rh but it should be something like
"adduser yourusername audio"

The right commnd would be
Code:
usermod -G audio username
Make sure you list all the users current groups as well when using -G in a comma seperated list with no whitespace, because if you don't the user you are modifying will be removed from those groups.

is there an audio cable connected to your cd drive to your sound card, if there isnt either add one or set KScd to play Digitaly.
