cannot su to root from users

hai....
i can't do su root it prompt for password, i put the right password. but still i can't be root.

any clue ?

which distro? some distros are setup so that you have to be a member of a certain group(such as "wheel") to su.

slax
i use slackware 9.1. and i just add my user to wheel group. but it won't don any differences. by the way, my other pc that run slax 9.1 can do su. but this one can't
