Cannot Open Window Using Startx In tty


Fatal Server Error: Window is already in use for server 0.

Can anyone tell me why I cannot use the Xwindow in another tty?
I dont understand.

Because you have already a Xserver running. If you want to start another one you have to specify which (virtual) display it has to use, like this:

startx -- :1
Offtopic: You really should change the distribution in your profile and your signature. You have several threads where you state that you are using Backtrack (which is by the way a bad choice for a newbie) and Backtrack is not Kubuntu.

hi

i dont understand the difference between a server and a desktop. In windows, i can switch betwwen as many desktops as i want.

Why is a server instead of a desktop being used in linux?
