Cannot get Wired Connection to work on Linux mint

Hi,
My laptop is able to connect to wifi easily but is not working for wired connection.
this is what I get when I try ifconfig:

surbhi@surbhi-Precision-M2800 ~ $ ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 34:e6:d7:0a:21:ad
inet6 addr: fe80::36e6:d7ff:fe0a:21ad/64 Scope:Link

RX bytes:17122 (17.1 KB) TX bytes:17122 (17.1 KB)

wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 80:00:0b:4c:b8:91

UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:110822 (110.8 KB) TX bytes:75539 (75.5 KB)
My personal thought is that my eth0 does not have an IP address setup. But I thought that it would happen automatically.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

I have tried doing it, it did not work . Still I don't get internet access but it shows that the wired network is connected.

is that not stating that his eth0 is up and running already?
then, if yes, would not taking down his wifi so that the unit would then be "forced" to use the eth0 to get out would then take place?

because his wifi maybe taking precedence over his eth0

mod:

i know on Network mamager it had a selection for
Code:
enable network
enable wifi
right clicking on applet, un-select enable wifi, enable network is still in effect.

it is a simple try if you are running an applet such as that.
or
Code:
ip link set wlan0 down
comman line commandO on it even.
