No, you have probably Ubuntu 10.04 (maybe Xubuntu 10.04, Kubuntu 10.04, Lubuntu 10.04, ...).
SCNR, but Linux is the kernel, and currenty up to version 3.0.something. 10.04 is the version of the Distribution, containing the kernel and myriads of tools and applications.

It is always better to explain more about your problem. Saves time and gives you more detailed answers.
Do you say you have a laptop that came with Windows XP, installed *buntu 10.04 on it (erasing Windows or as dual boot) and now you can't connect to the WLAN?
Or is it that you have set up a *buntu machine and are trying to connect your Windows laptop to it using WLAN?
Also please tell us what exactly you did to connect to the WLAN and any error messages you saw.
