can SUSE (host) be restarted when xp (guest) on vmware is running inside

Hello,

I have SUSE Enterprise 10.2 as host and win-xp as a guest on vmware. I was mounting a file on my host and the command seemed to run smoothly. At the same time I had also started my guest Win-XP on vmware.Suddenly the system hung. Can I restart my system at this state i.e. vmware already running inside?
I am afraid to restart it in this state unknowingly whether it is safe or not. Please suggest what to do.

When you restart you host (ie Ctrl+Alt+Del) all programs are stopped, so that means vmware will stop too. I'm not to sure how gracefully vmware will do this though. I'd expect it will just abort the guests, just like pulling the power out of a real machine.

Thanks for replying....

But I cant use ctrl+Alt+Del as my keyboard (mouse) not working. What I am asking for.......... can I power restart(forcefully, when no other options left) my computer at this state.

You can restart the host whichever way you have available. Your file-systems will recognize that they have not be closed cleanly and will/should force a check on themselves, so long as these pass ok all should be well.

Please remember I or anyone else here can guarantee that you will suffer no data loss.
