Is there a way to create a local yum repository without having to copy the contents of the DVD to the local hard drive? I've got four DVD's and a 20 gig HD. I'd prefer yum attempt to install / update directly from the DVDs.

yum localinstall /mnt/cdrom/me.rpm

I've got a 4 DVD set, one of which is full of updates. I'd prefer to run yum against the DVD than pull them off the Internet. As I understand it, the localinstall parameter requires me to specify each .rpm manually. It also assumes I know what each package does based on the filename. Since I can't get yum to work, I don't know exactly what packages the FC5 "Desktop" config installed or what the packages are named If I can get a repository set up, I hope I can use the Add / Remove Software GUI tool or one of the other yum GUI's and let them tell me the full "human readable" application name.

The baseurl in the fedora-core, fedora-updates, and fedora-extras .repo files should be set to

baseurl=file:///media/disk

regardless of how the Updates and Extras DVDs mount themselves. This will allow access to the Core DVD, the one used for the original installation, either from yum or the Add / Remove Software GUI menu option. The localinstall option is not needed.

I have not worked out how to access the Updates or Extras DVDs through yum. What doesn't work is creating a new repo with the same baseurl as above and then disabling all other repos.
