Thanks for the input all!
I'll see what I can get rid of, and try to expand the root partition if Steam OS lets me.

@sundialsvcs Sounds nifty, I'll keep LVS in mind for future use.

That's right @michaelk I'm using my Steam Deck's desktop mode to the fullest.
I've been thinking about expanding my Steam Deck with an SD card. Now sounds like a good time.

So, if I were to expand my root partition using resize2fs, will /etc and /var scale along with it automatically?

I don't see anything about BTRFS in the resize2fs man page.

No, /var is a separate partition and /etc is an overlay which is mounted in some boot process. The root partition is read only by default which is maybe why /etc is an overlay.

While LVM is great for regular PCs it does not make sense for something like the Steam Deck IMHO.

Are btrfs-tools installed? Does the btrfs command (utility whatever) exist?

Others have already posted about resize2fs NOT being the right tool to expand your btrfs partition(s). [NOTE: The manpage for resize2fs(8) says so right in the NAME text right at the top.]

When I've needed to add more storage space to a btrfs filesystem, I've added additional space using
Code:
# btrfs device add chunk1 [chunk2 ...] /your-btrfs-filesystem-mount-point
where "chunkN" might be an individual partition (/dev/sdc1) or even an entire disk (/dev/sdc).

HTH...
