Bounce back email with a message?

Hi all,

Linux newb here. I am wondering if there is a way to bounce back all email sent to a mailbox with an "out of office" type message attached to the email.

We have had a person leave our business and the Department Administrator want this type of system in place.

The bounce back would say that the person is no longer here and give a list of people to contact for assistance. It would also give out the new information for the person that left.

She does not want to forward all email to another address and thus, have to sort and distribute the emails herself.

Is this doable? Is it close to making a .forward file or a bit more complex?

Thanks much!

T

What mailing system are you using? Then we can point you in the proper direction for setting up an autoresponder.

Thank you for replies, did I say I was a newb? lol

I am using
OS: red hat enterprise AS
Mail program: sendmail

The link is helpful in that the person installed a autoresponder. My supervisor wants a bounce back so the we dont collect mail and the autoresponder. Is this possible? Easy to do? I would prefer not to add any programs if I can do this with just the OS or the mail program... being a newb.

Thanks much!
