Booting problem with RHEL AS 4

Hi,
I just (successfully) installed RHEL AS 4 with ALL options on my erstwhile PC that was running XP Pro. This is a brand new machine with a RAM of 2.5GB (256+256+1000+1000). I removed the ntfs partitions while installation of RHEL AS4.
After it showed that the installation was successfull, it asked me to reboot, which I dutifully did.
But unfortunately, the system simply refuses to boot up.
On the monitor, it shows until..
Uncompressing Linux...Ok, booting the kernel.
and thats it..no movement after that.
I waited for an hour..since I read in one of the forums that it does take about 18/20 mins. I even removed the additional RAM and tried to boot with just 512MB RAM.. same results.
Someone..please help!!

Since nobody has replied yet, I'll give you some tips to get started and hopefully people will contribute.

1. Try to boot with a live-cd distro like Knoppix or redhat rescue disc to check if your have a hardware problem.

2. Do you see any kernel panic messages?

Tux,

RHEL AS 4 Booting

Hi Tux,
Thanks a lot for your response. I did try what you had suggested and did get the kernel panic message.
What then I did was add pci=nommconf command in the grub console to the kernel command and it booted up.
Thanks a lot!
