Are Older Linux Distros more stable than newer ones?

I tried the following distros:

Mandrake Linux 9.1 (Never Crashed on me)
Mandrake 10.1 (Crashed, well, KDE could not load after logging in)
Suse Linux 9.3 ( Something went wrong...)

In my opinion, I highly think of the older distros such as Slackware much more stable than the newer ones or newer Kernels.

That is not true. You can not say that that after trying 3 distro's. Kernel etc. are developed to make things better or to add functionality. For example, getting wireless card to work in Redhat 8.0 would be a pain in the butt while the newer kernel supports it out of the box!

This could be just bad luck on your part. I find most new distros quite quite feature rich and stable compared to old distros. Slack is not an old distro, its one of the oldest distros but is quite upto date in terms of features.
