Hi,
This is my first time using this forum and I am hoping someone can assist me with this. I upgraded my apache in my environment red hat Linux rhel 5 using a tar ball. I went through all configurations and the configuration file and everything is up and running. It restarted but it is not connecting to the website....Help!

Read the "Question Guidelines" link in my posting signature. You provide next to zero useful details, so it's impossible to help. First, why did you use the tar archive to upgrade apache? That is a rather involved build, and unless you build it correctly/build it how YOU need it, it may not work at all. Secondly, what makes you think it's working? You say "everything is up and running"...but you cannot hit the web sites it hosts; that logically doesn't track. If the web server is running, you can hit websites. You also don't say what kind of pages...again, if you have PHP pages, and didn't build things with the PHP support...they won't work.

Also, RHEL 5 is ancient, and end-of-life for all but 5.11, I believe, and even that is on very limited support. Have you contacted RHEL support for help, since you're PAYING FOR RHEL, RIGHT???? Can you not upgrade it via yum? And the best question is WHY did you do this upgrade?

What TB0ne is trying to get across here, Nanguru, is that you're scum. And you'll be scum for the rest of your life!

Vincix, what is your problem??? This is the second time you've done crap like this, for no apparent reason. The OP didn't post enough information, so we have to ask. If you can answer the question, then DO IT. Otherwise, I'll ask again: what is your problem???

I though was a helpful supportive environment, so why so much hostility??????? Questions can be asked in a respectful and calm format. If you don't want to assist then don't and let someone who wants to help.

TBOne I am using an old system. Obviously it's not me, it's the environment I work in. we don't use yum that's why I use tar. When I say it is working, I mean everything up until the website. Meaning it is restarting and it shows the status and upgraded version. It's fine if you can't help or give suggestions... I only wanted to get other positive views and suggestions on the problem.

We are happy to help, but without the relevant details, we can't do too much.

Are you saying that you can see the httpd/apache process running on the server, but can't access any web pages? And again, what KIND of web pages? How are you restarting the service? Did you keep your old apache config files? Did you remove the apache package, before installing the tarball?? And again..WHY did you feel the need to install a new apache via tar?

Honestly, if you're not paying for RHEL, and you're having to upgrade critical services (like apache) via tar (NOT recommended), I'd stop where you are. Download the latest version of CentOS 7.x, and do a fresh install. CentOS is 99.x% identical to RHEL, but FREE. With that, you get the updated yum environment, along with the updated Apache, security-related things, and PHP. Staying with an ancient, unsupported OS in production is a guarantee of problems in the very near future.

When you have no sense of irony whatsoever, it's quite natural to react that way. I couldn't help it, really. The sheer fact that you're actually using more than one question mark simply excites me.

I mean, it's obviously that you are correct to pinpoint whenever the OP doesn't give enough details, but whenever I see you "trying" to answer, I see that you're actually hunting for people who you think want help without their making any effort on their own. All I'm saying is, turn your spyglass towards yourself once in a while and try to reread at least once your posts (usually, the first one in every thread). I concede that this time you were pretty mild, compared to your other posts in which you burst in a hysterical fit - but everyone thinks that's just fine because you're abiding by the forum's rules - which is obviously a mere alibi - so that you can overreact.

If there's anything you could actually take from what I'm saying (meaning, if you're really unwilling to learn anything from what I've just said, then at least try to use one question mark at a time. I really think that would be a good step forward).

@Nanguru I hope you understand that I wasn't actually offending you in any way.

In short, you're saying you're a troll, who wants to try to pick at others, while offering no solutions/help of their own. If you're unwilling to learn anything, then keep your mouth shut. And while you may say "hysterical fit", it is not...I have helped many folks..far more than you. Think what you want, but if you're not going to contribute to a thread, then contact Jeremy and see how he feels about you just posting your 'irony' everywhere, instead of actual help.

And, when you have no sense PERIOD, it's easy to forget that your 'irony' is lost WHEN YOU TYPE, since there is no inflection, tone, or other cues that would help someone pick these things out, right??? And if more than one question mark excites you, you need to get out more.

Why would it? After all, you called him scum, and told him he'd always be scum, right?? Be sure you 'turn your spyglass inwards' here, and try to see irony, ok???

Again you're throwing a fit and act as if that were normal. I am relaxed and you're, again, hysterical, because you refuse to understand you get a kick out of hunting newcomers, as it were, despite your helping them from time to time, under the guise of observing the forum's rules. But you're right, irony cannot be express in writing. But only orally. I've never read a writer who tried to express irony in writing. Such a waste of time that would be

Well, if he's got some brains... you know.

If you really want to help, see my post about configuring postfix, dovecot. I can't seem to go any further!

And again, you're operating under the false assumption that I'm "throwing a fit"...I am not. I have dealt with people such as you for a long time. The forum rules are there for everyone....got a problem with them? Then tell Jeremy, a moderator, or open a thread in LQ Suggestions and Feedback. Otherwise, if you don't like something, report it, or keep it to yourself.

You want to be a loudmouthed troll, and then expect help? Doesn't work that way. And as you said:
