How can I add programs to the Applications menu? I have an icon on my desktop to run xmms, but I can't figure out how to make it part of the menu.

Can I access it in the File Browser somewhere and just drag and drop like you can with the Start bar in Windows?

I don't like to put a bunch of progs on the desktop just for the simple fact that I keep a lot of windows open and I have to unbury my desktop to run anything...

I'm trying to use Linux as often as possible so I can start advancing my useage of it. I'm going to try to get my buddy to show me how to install packages and whatnot as that limits a lot of what I can do as far as adding software.
