Wireshark and COmpaq nx7300 (Intel Corporation 82557/8/9)

I have a Compaq nx7300. I am trying to get Wireshark to pickup packets on the network other than my own. Is there something else that I need to do or will this particular network card not allow network sniffing? And yes, I have the option for capturing packets in promiscous mode.

Thanks

Hi.

Are you on a switched network? If so you'll only see your own traffic and any broadcast packets.

Yes, I am on a switched network.

I was under the impression that even on a switched, you would see other packets but, that makes sense.

Is there a way around that (without changing to hubs)?

Have a google about for 'ARP poisoning'. Not advisable on a network that you'd like to keep working reliably, and not generally effective against decent switches anyway.

I suppose it might be possible to configure the switches to broadcast all packets on all port, but you probably don't want that. Or maybe you do...
