Wireguard-enabled Router

Hi - I work on industrial controls (i.e. PLCs) and have a need to connect multiple remote sites. Historically we have used UHF/900Mhz radios or leased phone lines. With the availability of high-speed internet being readily available I would like to switch to this. To create a private network using standard internet (i.e. not a private or point-to-point) - I was thinking that Wiregauard would be a great solution. In most instances, I do not have a PC at these remote sites and would like to find a quality Wiregauard-enabled router (that would simply follow the cable/fiber modem) to create the network. This is a critical network so I would prefer a higher-end/industrial-grade product.

Anyone have any suggestions?

ASUS routers appear to have built in wireguard support and it looks like you can setup a site to site connection.

You will probably find most higher end appliance products only support IPSec/OpenVPN. pfSense supports Wireguard and you can either purchase an appliance or build your own. https://www.pfsense.org/

What is your approximate hardware budget per site? Can you give more details about the topology you have in mind? How fast, 10/100/1000/5000 bps? One Ethernet adapter or two or more?

If you are just planning to stay with the existing networks at each site and just plug Single-Board Computers (SBC) into them, then there are a lot of alternatives, at least on paper. Finding them in stock will be difficult, especially when ordering in bulk. That may take a bit of negotiation and waiting.

The site LinuxGizmos (formerly LinuxDevices) has a lot in that area, and is browsable, even if the search capabilities are not so detailed. Here is are some old examples:

https://linuxgizmos.com/tiny-hacker-...a-13-90-price/
https://linuxgizmos.com/headless-ora...thernet-for-7/

Here is a newer overview:

https://linuxgizmos.com/catalog-of-1...bcs-under-200/

But again, it is a matter of finding them in stock.

Also, what is your software strategy, especially in regards to updates for the host system running WireGuard? Keeping it simple means OpenWRT, PFSense, or at most Alpine Linux or OpenBSD and the lowest-end boards are not necessarily going to be supported.

I never commented on your first post but what you want is exactly a site to site or client to server private VPN IMO.
