Webmin cannot handle Samba config files that use the config or include directives

I get this error:

Webmin cannot handle Samba config files that use the config or include directives.

When trying to access the Samba server page in Webmin.

Previous reports of this problem say that it was solved with version 0.74 of Webmin
I am using Webmin version 1.170 on SuSE Linux 9.2

Samba version is:
# /usr/sbin/smbd -V
Version 3.0.7-5.2-SUSE

What do i need to do?

Possible Solution

Hi,

Whilst i still have not got it all set up just right yet this is what worked for me to get passed that really anoying error message from webmin.

Simply rename the smb.conf file to something else for safe keeping then try again and it should recreate a new .conf file for you.

So in my case this was simply a case of;

mv /etc/samba/smb.conf /etc/samba/smb.orig

then i went into webmin -> server -> samba and it worked.

Hope that works for you

If you have already made some configuration settings in Samba and don't want to loose what you've already done, open /etc/samba/smb.conf with a text editor and look for lines that start with config = or include = . There's a real good chance you don't need these lines so they can probably be deleted or remarked out. After that, you should be able to open the file with Webmin.

If you haven't done any configuration of Samba yet, stevey99's solution is the simplest.
