I just did a fresh install of Fedora 2. When I tried to connect to this machine, all I got was a big blank screen. I installed another vnc server that I had used before and it's been downhill from there. I am having trouble when I run vncpasswd. This is the error message I get:
vncpasswd
vncpasswd: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
rpm -Uhv compat-libstdc++-8-3.3.4.2.i386.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
file /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5 from install of compat-libstdc++-8-3.3.4.2 conflicts with file from package libstdc++-3.3.3-7
I did download libstdc++-devel-3.3.3-7.i386.rpm and which contains libstdc++-3.3.3-7. I was thinking maybe uninstalling it and reinstalling it. But I don't know if that might mess something up. Would be it a good idea to try that?
let's look at the problem from a different angle.... you've got a almost pure base install of FC2 right? and you're installed "another" vnc server. to me i'd doubt the vnc part, not the dependencies. install an official Fedora rpm, OR build a vnc server from source. you really don't want to go screwing around with libstdc++
The other vnc server I installed was nothing more than extracting a tar that contained vncserver, vncpasswd, etc copied into the /usr/local/bin folder.
And what you're saying is to install the origanal vnc rpm that came with the cds? or build one from source?
