Using minicom to access Cisco switch

Hi guys,

I'm trying to access the console port of a Cisco 2900XL switch using minicom on Slackware 12.1.

I'm using a USB-serial adapter, and have followed the instructions on http://useopensource.blogspot.com/20...-in-linux.html (found in another thread), but I cannot get it to work.

After using lsusb to find the adapter details, I added a line to rc.modules, and now it come sup as /dev/ttyUSB0 (which is great). lsmod shows usbserial as loaded.

I tell minicom the settings to use (/dev/ttyUSB0, 9600 8N1, flow control set to off), but it will not connect to my switch.

I know the adapter and cable are good as they work fine on a Windows box using HyperTerminal.

Does anyone know what I might have missed?

Many thanks,

Mark.

You might try removing the init string per the instructions you linked to. The only other suggestion I would have is connecting your computer to another terminal emulator (such as your MS box running hypertemrinal) with matched settings and see if you can get anything to flow in either direction, using the results for troubleshooting and additional info.
