upgrade packages > no network

Hi,

I upgraded my debian sarge (more than 100 packages). Maybe it was not a good idea... I restarted my PC.

No network !!! I am lost now. I dont understand what is happening.

The driver is still loaded :

# lsmod | grep sk98lin
sk98lin 182288 0

but

# ifconfig eth0
eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

#lspci

Did not change : my card did not disappear.

Where did I go wrong? How can I make my network work now?

Any help will be appreciated.

As the module is there try:

ifconfig eth0 $IP $NETMASK up

and see what happens.

Debian has a setup tool for networking, I can't stat how it was called, but I guess netconf

Thanks!

There is a netconf-laptop package but I have a desktop... So I will try to google something else...

# ifconfig eth0 $IP $NETMASK up
eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device

What do you think about it?

Internet is back!

Basically, I uninstalled and reinstalled sk98lin driver. I should have tried this earlier even if I don't understand what was the problem : I recompliled exactly the SAME DRIVER with SAME KERNEL SOURCES as before (2.6.11). Do you have an explanation?

Anyway, it works now and I am happy!

Thanks!
