Loath as I am to consider Dell, their PowerConnect 2324 does have an 8.8Gbps backplane, two gigabit ports, and a nice price.

I am trying to balance the load over 2 pppoe interfaces ppp0 and ppp1
ip route add default scope global nexthop via <gateway-ip> dev ppp0 weight 1 nexthop via <gateway-ip> dev ppp1 weight 1
However, the download bandwidth of both the interfaces is not used.
Data is downloaded via ppp0 only and uploaded via ppp1 only.
Are there any other options in the command that I am missing ?

Your problem with load balancing to the internet is load balancing incoming traffic. You need all three pipes connected to the same ISP and they need to be aware that you want them load balanced or all your return traffic will all head up one pipe.

HI
i am also looking for a similar solution , were you able to find one ?

friends can someone point me in the correct direction.

1) what would be the most cost effective solution (installing a software or buying a switch /router)

i am looking for a cheap and reliable solution.

I had posted a method to get perfect load balancing on another forum a while back. You might find it useful
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?p=835704

To use some specific iptables features, you may have to re-compile it. This link will help
