Hello there.
I'm refurbishing an old laptop, and I'm having issues logging in to a wi-fi network.
On my phone and in recent Windows, like 10 and 11, when you connect to the network you get a browser screen to give your username and password. Linux Lite doesn't show this input window, so I have to connect by using my mobile phone by USB connection.
Do you know how to connect to this network, by any chance. Or even shed light on it?
Sounds like you are behind a captive portal / walled garden, and the network login page where you accept the terms and conditions, and in some environments enter name/password, isn't coming up.
In firefox, when I go to starbucks, there's a little notification at the top that tells me I need to open the network login screen and gives me a link.
This has been reliable in updated firefoxes, but a few years ago, it wasn't always so, and it was frustrating.
Sometimes it is because the browser is trying cached versions of name sever ip, and so isn't getting the current routers nameservers... bypass this by turning on "private browsing" and as this by default doesn't use the cache, it may force your browser to bring up a the network login screen. Try http sites.

Reason: perfection
I found the little link button to open the login page...a walked garden or captive portal. Well I never.
Every day is a school day.
Unfortunately, I'm going to fail the exam on cached nameservers, by the looks of it. I need to put some time into computer studies, I think Windows makes it easy but is a bit of a dull child, I'm enjoying Linux, who had the concept of a centralised app store before anyone, save for Google perhaps.
I tried about 8 OS distros, just to get the Broadcom 4318 network adapter to work, I'm not really good at Linux command line, so i was really happy when Linux Lite worked, straight from the box. Some if the distros, I tried more than once.
The laptop is unremarkable, an HP DV5000. However, cosmetically it's in good condition.
I've also explored a Raspberry Pi setup as outlined in the provided post, but I'm facing similar issues with ANT scanning. I would greatly appreciate your guidance and expertise in resolving this matter.
