telnet problem

Hi

i can't seems to telnet to another linux machine . i keep getting this error

Trying <ip address>...
telnet: connect to address <ip address> Connection refused

using redhat 8 on both machines.

i have used setup to reconfigure the firewall setting in its setting. but everytime i go back in the setup it shows the same previous setting like what they were before i changed them first...

any help would be appreciated..

Sounds stupid but is telnet running on the remote machine?

Also have you considered using ssh instead, its more secure as telnet is like leaving your doors unlocked and going on vacation.

make sure telnetd is running on the other machine ( like tricky said) and also, i would have to recommend NOT using telnet, sends your password over the net in plain text. Instead use ssh (again like tricky said), and again, make sure sshd is running on the other machine (probably already is).
