telnet: Connection refused

I can ping between my two Suse 9.0 linux boxes. But when I telnet I get "Connection refused." I get this message also when I telnet the local machine. I can kssh into each machine, but not ssh? What gives?

Also, what file do I set my gateway in?

Thanks.

1) is there a telnet daemon listening on port 23?
netstat -tan | grep 0.0.0.0:23

2) look in /etc/hosts.allow add sshd:<IP>

Bad idea...

You don't want to use telnet, it's insecure.
Use ssh instead.
telnet is usually disabled now because it's a security hole, when you type in your password you are sending it across the internet in the clear.
