I was wondering if anyone knew how to make my life easier?
These are the steps to access my remote servers at work.
ssh-agent tcsh
ssh-add
(I enter in my passphrase here)
ssh <a remote host>
Once I am in I have to ssh to a internal server since the one I ssh to above is just a firewall machine with no disk access or anything just for remote logins.
ssh <a real remote host>
Once I am in transferring files is a pain back and forth etc. and makes working so slow, is there a way to get around that and edit files as if they were locally mounted?
If I didn't have all the ssh-agent crap I could use konqueror's fish: or sftp: protocol but others have suggested keychains(?) and I am still unproductive from home. The problem is I work from many locations and most don't use the above, the simple ssh is all, and they are a breeze to work from but just this one site make my life tough. Just thought I would post to see if there was something out there I didn't know about that could help me...
I just read a little about the first two commands and tried to get how they work.
As I understod the ssh-agent is used to handle all authentication with your servers, and ssh-add adds your identities for ssh-agent to use when connecting.
You should be able to script these command sequences. At least the first two steps.
ssh-agent is, as far as I understand, ment to run continusly so you should be able to add them to yor login script ~/.bashrc or ~/.bash_profile.
The ssh-add will probably still ask for your passphrase to your RSA key though.
The two ssh commands can be a bit more tricky, but this might work
ssh <remote host> ssh <real remote host>
