I am attempting to get my redhat 8 server to authenticate to Active Directory. I can do a kinit and it appears it authenticates well but when I use smbclient //adserver/test (test is a share) -k it get prompted for a password and then the following returns:
OS=[Windows Server 2003 3790] Server=[Windows Server 2003 5.2] tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Does this mean I haven't configured my samba or kerberos correctly? I have validated my account id and password works and currently has domain admin rights.
Any ideas? Any thoughts, links, pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Yes. I am logging in as user id test with the password being the same on both systems. "test" has domain admin rights in AD and is a root users on the linux side.
I think you need to do this:
vi /etc/samba/smbusers
type i for insert
type your local unix user name, then = then the user name you want to attach as.
type <esc><caps lock><z><z>
then type:
smbpasswd <windows user name>
type the password twice
then type service smb start
then try to connect to the windows machine
